This is a very popular area for backpacking, camping, and hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. You'll need to leave pups at home — dogs aren't allowed on this trail.

For more information, please visit: https://brightonresort.com/conditions Desolation Lake is nestled under Squaretop and Desolation Peak. You'll get great views along this trail and at the lake. This route makes for a great long day hike or light overnight backpack. This lake is part of the protected Big Cottonwood Canyon watershed. Dogs and swimming in any lake or river the the area is prohibited. The trail is shared by hikers and mountain bikers it is a good idea to be aware of others out there on the trail.
